toy collectwhore: Batgirl
11:44 AM
Enough of these newer figs to breakdown-- lets go old-school. And who better than to kick-off some classic toycollectwhore-ism on than with the girl that started it all in the Bat-Fam, Batgirl aka Barbara Gordon or better known these days as Oracle of the Birds of Prey.
In every possible way, this is the ultimate Batgirl piece-- to add more proof on this point-- this figure has been re-issued as a 2-pack with Azrael just last year with virtually no changes to the figure. Yeah also a stack of bills on picking this fig up-- on avg. goes for $40 loose. Dayuuum!!
Fun Factor: This Batgirl fig is from Mattel's 2006 DC Superheroes (or Select Sculpt Series-S3) line that eventually become the DCU Classics wave we all know and love. What was additionally dope is I got this Target Exclusive 2-pack packaged with a Batman that to this day is one of the fan-fave sculpts of the Dark Knight across toy-forums.
Only hit on this which is more a reflection of when it was made is the articulation. Batgirl is lacking the swivel in her wrists and waist which allows for some of those high-dexterity moves she is well known for from her old days of rooftop swinging.

Fo-reals brah:
There is a lot of love out there for the original Batgirl and though DC Direct has hit on many of the incredible predecessors of her legacy-- Batwoman, Huntress, Batgirl (Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown)-- only the Four Horseman have really carved out Babs in her original fatigues on the plastic casts. And when you take a look and compare how she stacks on the shelves compared to some of the others, Barbara Gordon still owns it.

Artistic Integrity: It was awesome to find some classic Greg Land artwork circa 98 (from Chuck Dixon's run on Birds) that I got to reference in posing for the mad action shot above. Despite this mold being over 6 yrs old, the detail is superior to many other figs that are released today. Check the two-toned paint on boots and gauntlets. Look closer and check the rivets of the bottom of her kicks!!In every possible way, this is the ultimate Batgirl piece-- to add more proof on this point-- this figure has been re-issued as a 2-pack with Azrael just last year with virtually no changes to the figure.
